Monash University in johannesburg

In 2001, Monash University opened Monash South Africa (MSA), a campus in Johannesburg, South Africa. This campus, which is situated in Ruimsig, Roodepoort, was Monash’s first overseas foray into Africa. Monash South Africa changed its name to IIE MSA in 2019 and joined The Independent Institute of Education (IIE), the biggest private university in South Africa. With this modification, Monash University’s direct engagement came to an end, and the final Monash-affiliated courses were offered in 2022.

Transition to IIE MSA

In 2019, Monash South Africa underwent a significant transformation. The institution rebranded as IIE MSA after being acquired by The Independent Institute of Education (IIE)—the largest private higher education provider in South Africa. This transition marked the end of Monash University’s direct involvement in South Africa, with the final Monash-affiliated programs concluding in 2022.

The change brought new opportunities while maintaining the high academic standards Monash had set. IIE MSA continues to offer industry-relevant programs designed to equip students with the skills needed in today’s competitive job market.
