Does EWC offer IT courses?

A variety of Information Technology (IT) courses are available at Ekurhuleni West TVET College (EWC) in South Africa, with the goal of giving students the practical skills they need to succeed in the rapidly changing tech sector. The National Certificate (Vocational) [NC(V)] program in Information & Communication Technology, with an emphasis on IT & Computer Science, is one of these options. It covers topics including cybersecurity, networking, and software development.

In January 2023, EWC expanded its curriculum to include new courses in IT Programming and Robotics. These programs emphasize hands-on learning, enabling students to develop their own software applications and operate robotic systems independently. The courses are available at the Kathorus and Germiston campuses, catering to students from NCV level 2 to 4.

Further enhancing its IT education, EWC partnered with WeThinkCode_, a nonprofit software development academy, to pilot a program training students with no prior coding experience to become software developers. This collaboration, initiated in March 2023, introduced cohorts of 50 students to WeThinkCode_’s curriculum at EWC’s Boksburg campus. The initiative aims to address the country’s technical skills shortage and has seen promising results, with an 88% pass rate and over half of the graduates securing internships.

Prospective students interested in pursuing IT courses at EWC can apply online or visit the admissions office for guidance. The college offers various programs, including the NC(V) in Information & Communication Technology and the newly introduced IT Programming and Robotics courses, providing ample opportunities for individuals aiming to build a career in the tech industry.

EWC’s commitment to expanding its IT curriculum and forming strategic partnerships underscores its dedication to providing quality education that meets the demands of the modern technological landscape.
