Membership and Qualification
To become a Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)), candidates must complete an accredited undergraduate accounting degree from a SAICA-approved university. After obtaining the degree, they must complete a Certificate in the Theory of Accounting (CTA), which focuses on accounting, auditing, taxation, and financial management. The CTA is a one-year program at a SAICA-accredited institution.
After completing CTA, candidates enter a three-year learnership with a Registered Training Office (RTO) to specialize in auditing or with an Approved Training Organization (ATO) for financial management. This practical training equips future accountants with hands-on experience before they qualify as CAs(SA).
